Trim is the last thing to go into a room and the first thing your eye catches. A tight corner at a door casing, or baseboard that follows the wall, makes a plain room look finished. A gap stuffed with caulk makes a nice room look rushed. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely flat or square, so the real work is fitting each piece to the room that is actually there. A tape measure gets you close. The rest is careful cutting, test fitting and cutting again until the joint closes up.
Wood moves with the seasons, and Michigan gives it plenty of reason. Summer humidity swells it and a furnace running all winter dries it back out, which is why corners open up and joints show a line by February. New material does better when it sits in the house for a few days before it gets cut, so it can settle to the same moisture as the room. Shelves have their own way of failing. Books weigh more than people think, and a long, thin shelf will sag. Shorter spans, thicker boards and a solid fastening into the framing keep it straight.
Framing is the part nobody sees, so it is where shortcuts hide. If a wall is not straight and plumb, everything that goes on it afterward fights it. Before cutting into a wall that is already there, you need to know what runs through it and whether it is carrying weight from above, and some framing work needs a permit, so check with your city or township. For custom woodwork, the best thing you can do is start with how you plan to use it. Send a photo and rough measurements to (810) 844-6646 and we will go from there.
Send a close-up photo of the profile and we will tell you. Some older profiles are hard to find, and we would rather say so up front.
The width and height of the wall, how deep you want the shelves, and what is going on them. A photo of the wall helps too.
Usually, yes, unless it is meant to be stained. Interior painting is part of what we do, so we can finish inside trim too.
Interior painting, trim and carpentry, siding and fascia repair, and the general fixes every house needs. If you're not sure, just ask.
That's our favorite kind of call. Hand us the full list and we'll plan it out so you're not chasing down multiple contractors.
Yes. Taking a builder-grade house further is a lot of what we do, and Mike will help you make the design calls before the work starts. Call or text (810) 844-6646 and we will come look. Estimates are free.

No, not anymore. Our painting is interior: walls, ceilings, trim and doors. Outside, we repair and replace fascia, trim boards and siding.
