Most of a good paint job happens before the first coat goes on. Nail holes and dings get filled and sanded. Anything greasy or glossy gets cleaned and scuffed so the new paint has something to grip. Floors and furniture get covered. Then comes cutting in, the brushed line where the wall meets the ceiling or the trim, and that line is what your eye goes to first. Rush the prep and it shows before long, in peeling along the trim, patches that flash through the new coat, and a wavy edge at the ceiling.
Sheen matters as much as color. Flat paint hides flaws on a ceiling but does not stand up to scrubbing. Eggshell or satin wipes down well on walls, and semi-gloss belongs on trim and doors, where hands and shoes do their damage. Water stains are their own problem. Regular latex paint lets them bleed right back through, so a stain needs a stain-blocking primer, and whatever caused it needs to be dealt with before anyone paints over it. Going from a dark color to a light one takes extra coats, so mention that up front.
If your house is older, know this before anyone sands. Lead paint was sold for homes until 1978, and the median Flint home was built in 1953, according to the Census. Old layers on trim, doors and windows are worth testing first, because sanding them makes dust you do not want in the house. Old trim is also often oil-based, and latex peels off it unless the surface is prepared for it. One more thing to be clear about: our painting is interior only. We do not do exterior painting anymore.
Yes. We work room by room, so one room is a fine place to start. Tell us which walls, and whether the ceiling, trim and doors are part of it.
No. Tell us what you are thinking and we can talk it through. Help with design decisions is part of what we do.
How old it is, any stains or past leaks, and anything you know about the old paint. If you have had it tested, tell us what came back.

That's our favorite kind of call. Hand us the full list and we'll plan it out so you're not chasing down multiple contractors.

No, not anymore. Our painting is interior: walls, ceilings, trim and doors. Outside, we repair and replace fascia, trim boards and siding.
