Fascia, trim boards, and siding repaired or replaced so the outside holds up to Michigan weather.

Fascia is the long board along the edge of your roof, and it takes water from every direction. Rot usually starts where nobody looks, like behind a gutter, at a corner joint, or under aluminum wrapped over the wood. By the time paint is peeling in one spot, the board behind it may already be soft. Trim boards at the corners and around windows and doors fail the same way, starting at the joints. A patch over soft wood just holds the water in. The rotted section has to come out, back to solid material, or the rot keeps going.
Michigan is hard on the outside of a house. Water gets into a joint, freezes, swells and opens the joint a little wider, and that happens over and over all winter. Ice that builds up at the roof edge can push meltwater back behind the fascia. Vinyl siding turns brittle in the cold, so a hard knock in January can crack a panel. It also grows and shrinks with the temperature, so it has to hang loose on its nails. Pin it tight and it buckles on the first hot day. Most of this work is about keeping water moving down and out.
Two things to know before you call. The median Flint home was built in 1953, according to the Census, and some houses from that era have cement shingle siding that can contain asbestos. Have it tested before anyone cuts or pulls it. Second, our work outside is repair and replacement only. We do not do exterior painting anymore. If new boards will need paint, line up a painter to finish them, because bare wood should not sit out in the weather. Older siding can also be hard to match, so ask about that up front.
No. We do not do exterior painting anymore, so our work outside is repair and replacement. If the new pieces will need paint, plan on a painter to finish them.
Press a screwdriver into the board near a corner or behind a gutter. If it sinks in, the wood has gone soft. Peeling in one spot and a gutter pulling away are other signs.
It depends on the damage and what is under it. Text a photo to (810) 844-6646 and we will tell you what we would do.
Interior painting, trim and carpentry, siding and fascia repair, and the general fixes every house needs. If you're not sure, just ask.
That's our favorite kind of call. Hand us the full list and we'll plan it out so you're not chasing down multiple contractors.
Yes. Taking a builder-grade house further is a lot of what we do, and Mike will help you make the design calls before the work starts. Call or text (810) 844-6646 and we will come look. Estimates are free.
Flint and the towns around it across Genesee and Oakland County, out to Ortonville, Clarkston, Oxford, Lake Orion and Auburn Hills. Further out than that? Call or text (810) 844-6646 and ask about your address.
No, not anymore. Our painting is interior: walls, ceilings, trim and doors. Outside, we repair and replace fascia, trim boards and siding.
